The Dezimra Institute presents

The Nigguneem (Melodies) of Shabbat

Welcome to Chevra DeZimra, a site dedicated to providing educational alternative potential examples of both traditional and contemporary expressions of the art of the Ba’al Tefilla, who leads the congregation in synagogue prayer and communal singing.

This initiative will hopefully encourage Ba’alei Tefilla to become “Song Leaders” and introduce different melodies to energize “communal singing”. The Torah teaches us that the first reflexive actions of thanks to Hashem by the newly freed Jewish people, upon crossing Yam Soof, were spontaneous communal singings. First led by Moshe and then a separate communal singing led by Miriam, Aaron’s sister. One of our primary goals is help every shul become a platform of spiritual uplifting, communal singing of the Tefillot.

The Dezimra Institute is sponsored by the Jewish Educational Leadership Institute, a not–for–profit organization.

The Nigguneem (Melodies) of Shabbat presented by the Dezimra Institute is not meant to be used or viewed on Shabbat or the Jewish holy days.

If you found this program enjoyable, please pass it on to your friends and family so that we, together, can fulfill an important mitzvah, around the world. And if you have comments or feedback, you can email us at dezimra@dezimra.org.
